Q: What is a dry-hire bar?
A dry hire bar means that we provide the bartending service, setup support, and bar tools, but the host provides all alcohol for the event. Under California state law, mobile bartenders cannot sell or provide alcohol unless they have the proper liquor license or permit. For private events, the host purchases the alcohol in advance, and we are paid only for bartending services — not for the alcohol itself.
Q: Are you licensed or certified?
Fox & Co. follows California Responsible Beverage expectations, and bartenders are RBS certified where required.
Q: What types of events do you serve?
At this time, we're a great fit for private gatherings like backyard parties, birthdays, holidays parties, dinner parties, showers, casual celebrations, and intimate weddings.
Q: Do you make cocktails and mocktails?
We can serve simple mixed cocktails and mocktails, and help with a small, manageable drink menu. For now, we keep things streamlined so the bar feels smooth and realistic for a home or private event setting.
Q: Do you bring a physical bar?
Not always. Many events use an existing counter, table, patio setup, or rented bar. We can help you figure out the best setup for your space. We also provided a portable bar upon request, for an additional fee.
Q: How far in advance should I book?
The sooner, the better, especially for weekends and holidays. Smaller gatherings may have more flexibility.
Q: What areas do you serve?
Fox & Co. serves Oakland, Piedmont, Berkeley, Alameda, and surrounding East Bay areas. We’re also happy to travel farther for events when available. Events outside our standard service area may include an additional mileage or travel fee.
Q: Can you help me figure out how much alcohol to buy?
Yes. Once we know your guest count, event length, and drink preferences, we can help you estimate quantities.
Q: What kind of garnishes do you provide?
We can provide basic cocktail garnishes such as citrus, olives, cherries, herbs, and cocktail picks. All garnishes are handled as bar-service items and are subject to safe food-handling practices. Some events or venues may require additional food-service permits depending on the location and event type.
